Lotus 155. Geography in motion

Digital 4 (2014)

The spread of dramatic natural events like floods, hurricanes or tsunamis on a global scale has been accompanied by a growing number of attempts to adapt our way of thinking in the face of situations like that of an immense ocean wave striking the land. In the framework of a representation of the liquid landscapes created by numerous recent disasters, Lotus presents a survey of the most notable planning and design interventions made in response to the calamities that have befallen various parts of the world. In the most recent proposals we are seeing a willingness to experiment with new models of intervention, with new criteria that aim to learn a new form of resistance from the action of water: a resilience that places adaptability at the center of the interventions, that opposes all rigidity with a principle of flexibility.
