Politics of the Campus

Lotus 165 (2018)

Having lost its original meaning of a training camp a long time ago, and become instead a symbol of the approach to university teaching in English-speaking countries, it is now possible to speak—although it is more a question of the name than the concept—of a “policy of the campus.” If, when we speak of the campus, we continue to refer to the idea of a compound located in an open space in which some areas are laid out as parkland, the efficacy of applying this notion in the framework of a policy of expansion remains to be seen. The issue provides confirmation of the interest in reassessing the original good intentions and understanding the fertility of a contest still under way between urban and rural.
